Beth Norling Bio

For the past eighteen years Beth has worked as a freelance illustrator and author specializing in children’s books. She also works as a contemporary artist.

Her work has been published internationally, and has been recognized by IBBI, the International Board of Book Illustration. Beth won the Queen Elizabeth ll Silver Jubilee trust award and achieved residencies at Varuna Writers Centre (2003 & 2007), Bundanon (2004), the Tyrone Guthrie centre in Ireland (2005), and Hill End (2006).

Apart from shows at Balmain Watch House Gallery, and a solo show at the Stop Laughing - This is Serious Gallery, Beth’s illustrations have been exhibited at Dromkeen, and Books Illustrated galleries in Melbourne, her selected works were purchased by the State Library of Victoria as part of their permanent collection.

Commissions include the Dr. Kate Winning murals for the Children’s Hospital Westmead. Beth was nominated as an emerging artist for the Westpac Redlands art prize and won the emerging artist award in 2006. She has taught advanced illustration at Sydney Graphics College, and has been a guest lecturer at TAFEs and Universities, and has spoken in her capacity as both author and illustrator at the International Teachers Federation of English (ITFE) conference, and at the Sydney Writers Festival.

Beth will have an exhibition of her contempory artwork at the Tin Sheds Gallery Sydney in March 2008.
